You are parked outside a club one night at closing while everyone is funnelling out. You see one particular woman you are interested in. You are watching from a safe enough distance that she cannot see you, but you can see her. It is obvious she had a few drinks while she was in there, and even though some asshat is hitting on her, it is clear she just wants the night to end and to go home.
She tells the dirtbag to fuck off, wishes her friend well, and begins walking off into the cold, NYC night. You start your car and quietly begin to follow her from a distance. You can feel your heart beating faster and faster in your chest as you get closer to her. But you get sloppy and get a little TOO close, which she notices. She panics, and runs in another direction. You laugh. You know her losing sight of you will lull her into a false sense of peace, and that is just what you want. Run, you whisper. It’s okay, because you have watched her before and you know where she lives.
By the time she gets her key in the lock of her front door, it is too late. You push her inside the house and let her know there is no way she is going to be escaping this. She screams, but it matters little. Actually, if anything, it validates this all for you. The reality is, this is not some perfect dream and that this is about to happen.
You cut a deep slash along the entirety of her hairline, and you reach your hands under the folds. While she is still screaming, you are pulling the scalp from her head.
By the way, have I mentioned that this entire scene (and entire film) is shot in first person? So when I say it is YOU doing this, it is you doing this. Also, this is just the first five minutes of the movie.
Maniac was an amazing film, but whoever says it isn’t disturbing is the kind of weirdo who does this shit in real life. Like me. And if you haven’t seen this one yet, at least check out the trailer below. It will definitely creep you out a bit.
