The first time I saw a photo of Olaf from Frozen, I involuntarily shuddered. This bucktoothed snowman monstrosity looked like the typical annoying Disney sidekick, only cranked up to 11. Then I watched the film and, much to my surprise, Olaf was not just tolerable but actually kind of funny and had a great song, to boot.
Unfortunately, whatever magic Disney was weaving to make him so fun in Frozen appears to have run out, because the Olaf’s Frozen Adventure short, which is currently showing before screenings of Pixar’s Coco, is drawing the kind of hate that’s usually reserved for Adam Sandler movies.
I say ‘short,’ but the damn thing is actually 21 minutes long and understandably, it’s driving audiences crazy. Backlash has been intense, to say the least, and now, it seems as if Disney’s listened, as they’ll be pulling the short from theaters starting December 8th. Granted, this news comes to us from a Redditor and not the studio itself, so it may not be true, but we’ve got no reason to doubt them and it’d certainly make sense if the Mouse House were to do this, as like we said above, people really don’t like Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
It’s unclear what will happen to the short now that it’s on its way out of theaters, but we imagine some kind of TV airing or home video release is on the cards. Again, though, with no word from Disney themselves, all we can do right now is speculate. That being said, we imagine we’ll get an official statement on the matter soon.
Until then, however, tell us, have you had a chance to see Olaf’s Frozen Adventure yet? If so, what’d you think of the short? Was it worth sitting through, or are you happy to hear that Disney’s pulling it? As always, you can sound off with your thoughts in the comments section down below.
