As expected, Disney has debuted a magical new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi/fantasy movie A Wrinkle In Time, which promises a grand, bold and visually stunning adventure, full of spectacle, wonder and fun for the whole family.
For those unfamiliar with the pic, A Wrinkle in Time stars a mighty impressive cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pena and Zach Galifianakis. The film is led by young actress Storm Reid (12 Years A Slave) though and directed by Ava DuVernay, who made history with Selma for being the first African-American woman to helm a movie with a budget of $100 million.
The upcoming blockbuster is based off the classic young adult novel of the same name written by Madeleine L’Engle, which was previously turned into a made-for-television film back in 2003. This is its first big screen adaptation, though, and if you’re curious to know more, here’s the official synopsis.
Meg Murry and her little brother, Charles Wallace, have been without their scientist father, Mr. Murry, for five years, ever since he discovered a new planet and used the concept known as a tesseract to travel there. Joined by Meg’s classmate Calvin O’Keefe and guided by the three mysterious astral travelers known as Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which, the children brave a dangerous journey to a planet that possesses all of the evil in the universe.
We’ve been looking forward to this one for a while now due to its incredible cast and talented director, and the brand new trailer you see up above definitely doesn’t disappoint. For starters, it perfectly captures the sense of wonder mixed with the extremely surreal tone that typifies the novel. It looks gorgeous, too – the movie was filmed in New Zealand – and it’s great to see a big studio pic like this with such a diverse cast.
All in all, this appears to be one of the most imaginative releases coming our way next year and you can bet that we’ll be counting down the days until A Wrinkle in Time arrives in cinemas. March 9th, 2018 is the date for your calendars.
