Disney boss seems to have an ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ viewing problem

Dial of Destiny debuts to a terrible RT rating, but at least it's got one big fan.

Disney CEO Bob Iger is a very busy man right now, with the Mouse House currently having to navigate not only the entertainment industry but intense political scrutiny from Republicans. So, how does Iger like to relax? Well, apparently by settling down to watch Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on repeat.

Indy’s latest (and final?) adventure just premiered at Cannes, with Harrison Ford receiving an honorary Palme d’Or to wild applause from those in attendance. During interviews on the red carpet, Iger revealed that the premiere would be his fifth time watching the movie.

But while Iger may be a die-hard Dial of Destiny fan, some critics clearly don’t agree. The sequel has debuted to a disappointing 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which it should be noted is even lower than the generally despised Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The more scathing reviews describe it as “a complete waste of time”, “not worthy of the whip”, and “a counterfeit of priceless treasure”.

All that said, this score has been awarded after just eight reviews from those in attendance at Cannes, so perhaps its rating will improve when more critics have given their opinions.

But even Dial of Destiny may not be the last we see of Indiana Jones in theaters. At Cannes Iger mentioned he would be open to further extensions of the franchise, though even if that happens it seems this entry will see Ford hang up the fedora and whip for good.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters on Jun 30.
