Cast your mind back to October of 2016, when Jurassic World 2 was beginning to gain a sense of momentum after appointing Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible, A Monster Calls) at the helm, and you may remember a casting call for a nine-year-old actress to play the part of Lucy.
Exactly how Lucy factors into Bayona’s 2018 creature feature is up for question, but the filmmaker took to Twitter earlier today to share a rather striking image from Jurassic World 2, which just may unveil our first, fleeting look at her. Shot from behind, the picture above frames the young, mysterious girl in a rather quaint museum, as she stares down the massive mouth of a Triceratops fossil.
Bayona captioned the pic with, “so excited to show you this!! A first look at the new Jurassic adventure,” but stopped short of divulging any concrete story details. It’s worth noting that the filmmaker confirmed the addition of industry veteran and all-around good-luck charm Geraldine Chaplin via Twitter just yesterday, so keep your peepers peeled on Bayona’s feed for more as time wears on.
Based on that aforementioned casting call, though, we know Lucy will enjoy a fairly major role in Jurassic World 2, and is likely one of the sequel’s key child actors who will soon share the screen with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
She is a young girl around 9 years of age. The girl playing “Lucy” must be at least 9 years of age by February 2017, but cannot be over 10 years old. She must be a sensitive and clever actress capable of handling long and complex scenes. Lucy must be able to handle a range of emotions from tender moments with her father, to anxiety, bravery, and shock.
With Pratt and Dallas Howard anchoring the dino action, the sequel has also made room in its ranks for Toby Jones, Justice Smith, Rafe Spall, BD Wong, Ted Levine, Daniella Pineda, and James Cromwell.
Jurassic World 2 is pegged for release on June 22nd, 2018.
