With the majority of the Star Wars: Episode VII cast now revealed, people have started voicing their opinions on the lucky men and women that director J.J. Abrams has chosen. But how about those that auditioned and didn’t end up being cast? Which actors/actresses could have been part of the iconic franchise?

We know that many, many talented individuals were in the running for roles in the film, but one name that we never heard pop up was Dev Patel. According to THR though, the actor tested as recently as three weeks ago, but failed to make the cut. The report goes on to detail how most of the cast came together and it’s definitely an interesting read. It makes me wonder though, which other well-known actors tested for roles that we never heard about. Sure, names like Zac Efron, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Gary Oldman and many more kept popping up in rumors over and over, but what about those that didn’t make headlines? Who else tested but didn’t make the cut?

Unfortunately, we’ll likely never know, but with more casting announcements still to come, it’s very possible that some of those previously rumored names could end up having a part in the film, or in its sequels. Seeing as it took this long to announce the first batch of casting though, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for a future reveal. It may be a while before we hear anything more about what is quite possibly one of the most discussed casts in Hollywood history.

Star Wars: Episode VII arrives on December 18th, 2015. Tell us, are you pleased with the cast?
