One of 2012’s biggest surprises was Gareth Evans’ The Raid: Redemption, an over-the-top, wildly entertaining, super violent and very well made action film. A sequel was greenlit a while back and as the director gets ready for production to begin, he has taken to Twitter to share some details on the upcoming movie.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, the sequel is titled Berandal and on Twitter, Evans revealed the timeline of the film, telling fans that it will take place only two hours after The Raid: Redemption ends. We don’t know much about the plot just yet but we can tell you that the star of the first film, Iko Uwais, will return and Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad, Marsha Timothy, Mathias Muchus, Tio Pakusadewo and Arif Rahman will take on supporting roles.
Though we still know next to nothing about Berandal, I’m already excited. The Raid: Redemption was one of my favorite films of 2012 and a sequel with Evans at the helm is something that holds a lot of promise. Honestly, I’m not sure how the director what he did the first time around. There are some absolutely jaw dropping scenes in The Raid: Redemption. Some of the best scenes to emerge from 2012 came from that film, but if anyone can give us something even better, it’s Gareth Evans.
With Berandal gearing up for production, more details are likely to pop up in the near future. For now though, all you really need to know is that a sequel to The Raid: Redemption is in the works and that it will likely be bigger, better and more explosive.
As always, we’ll keep you update when more news on Berandal rolls in but for now, let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to seeing the sequel and what you expect to see in it.
