With the voice cast having been revealed several weeks ago and the Blu-ray release of Justice League Dark now behind us (be sure to check out our review), it comes as no surprise that Warner Home Video wasted little time in releasing a trailer for the next DC animated film, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.
Paying tribute to the classic comic book storyline penned by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by George Perez, this long awaited adaptation will be a bit more loose than expected, seeing as how it has to align with the New 52 inspired continuity established by the current crop of animated movies. Still, fans should be pleased to see familiar faces such as Nightwing, Raven, Beast Boy and Starfire, along with new additions like Robin/Damian Wayne and Blue Beetle.
A good portion of the trailer places focus on Brother Blood, whom we can probably refer to as the true antagonist, along with the HIVE organization. Needless to say, we’ll be seeing depictions more accurate to the source material than, say, the more grounded versions seen on Arrow.
It could be argued, however, that it’s Deathstroke who steals the show in the footage given. Although this is the same iteration of the character that appeared in Son of Batman, it’s Miguel Ferrer who gives the veteran assassin his cold, calculating demeanor this time around. Knowing that he recently passed away, let’s count ourselves as being fortunate that Ferrer had the opportunity to lend his pipes to the role, because his casting here is simply perfect.
As of now, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract lacks a release date, but judging by WB’s history of second quarter releases in recent years, April or May are your best bets.
