The quest to find an actress to take on the role of Domino in the Deadpool sequel took a while and featured a long list of names, but Atlanta star Zazie Beetz was ultimately chosen to play the fan-favourite mercenary who has good luck powers.
What she’ll be getting up to in Deadpool 2 remains to be seen, but chances are the character will be around for the long haul, especially with Deadpool 3 and X-Force on the horizon. Despite it still being early days in the production process, one person who’s very confident in Beetz’s chances of success is Deadpool and Domino creator Rob Liefeld. Speaking in a recent interview, here’s what he had to say about the actress.
“Domino is all about… as an actress and as the character that is going to be on the screen you already allude to it, it’s all about the sass. You gotta understand: you’re gonna go up against Wade Wilson, who in this movie is Ryan Reynolds. I’m telling you, having been around Ryan multiple times that mouth cannot be stopped,” he added. “I don’t think he can say the jokes as fast as they are backed up in his head.”
Some of these people be like, ‘Oh hey, this girl should have been Domino, and pick out actress A through Z,’ and I’d be like, ‘I’m not sure that they can keep up with him.’ And oh my gosh, I’m not sure that Ryan’s gonna keep up with her. I think Ryan Reynolds is gonna have to work hard to keep up with Zazie. I mean, wow. You just go, ‘That chemistry is going to be spectacular.’ And that’s what it comes down to is the chemistry with these characters.”
The sequel has some big shoes to fill following the critical and commercial success of the first instalment, but the signs are pointing to it being something pretty special, especially with the inclusion of Domino. She’s one of those characters fans have wanted to see in live-action for quite some time now and Deadpool 2 is without a doubt the perfect place to bring her to the big screen.
How Beetz will ultimately do in the role is still up for debate – after all, we’ve seen absolutely no footage of her in action – but we have full faith in the the studio it comes to casting this particular franchise, given as they’ve done quite alright so far.
Now, if only we could get some updates on the Cable situation….
