Once again, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been stricken by a wide-ranging reshuffle of the Multiverse Saga’s remaining project, but Deadpool 3 has emerged in a better place than it was earlier today.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars have been kicked back by a year each, while Captain America: Brave New World has edged three months back to July 26 of next year. Thunderbolts has been delayed five months to December 20, 2024, with Blade now officially a Valentine’s Day release in 2025.
And yet, Deadpool 3 has been the sole outlier, having been moved forward by six months from November 8 to May 3, which might be to do with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s collaboration already in front of cameras. In typical Merc with a Mouth fashion, you can almost imagine Wade Wilson pointing and laughing at Earth’s Mightiest Heroes about the fact the MCU’s biggest hitters are coming back to the big screen a year behind schedule, whereas he got the jump on them.
Questions will obviously being asked as to why the Multiverse Saga has once more been plunged into chaos by a Phase-wide overhaul of its upcoming release dates, but we can at least thank the stars Shawn Levy’s R-rated blockbuster has survived yet another cull.
The writers’ strike has already been pinpointed as the number one reason, but given how heavily the Deadpool flicks have relied on improvisation so far – never mind the fact Reynolds can’t deviate off-script until the strike is over – there are going to be a lot of inquiries that fans will be needing answered.
