When asked for an elevator pitch regarding Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds compared his imminent action sequel to a “family film masquerading as a comic book film again.” And that’s despite the fact that Reynolds and co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick decided against the notion of throwing Wade Jr. into the mix.
However that may be, the latest Deadpool 2 promo has arrived, and this one’s all about the power of love. Oh, and family, because while the R-rated romp ditched the idea of Wade Wilson as a father (imagine the dad jokes!) pretty early on in development, it will feature a close relationship between the Merc With a Mouth and Russell (AKA Firefist), the fire-wielding mutant brought to life by Juliann Dennison, who so effortlessly stole every scene throughout the course of Hunt For the Wilderpeople.
He features briefly in today’s all-new sizzle reel, which sees Wade Wilson attempt to broker some sort of deal with Russell before he slips into the hands of Cable. And we all know Nathan Summers takes no shit.
In typically meta fashion, Ryan Reynolds has also been poking fun at Avengers: Infinity War and its own no spoiler policy, resulting in a hilarious open letter full of expletives and nods to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To the greatest fans in the whole universe.
We have embarked on the ‘Deadpool 2: This is King of Your Guys’ Fault’ World Tour. Almost everyone involved in the film has given Maximum Effort the past two years, maintaining the highest level of super secrets, like how David Blaine catches bullets in his mouth. And the secret blend of 11 herbs and spices in Colonel Sanders’ delicious mustache.
Only a handful of people know the film’s true plot. One of them is not Ryan Reynolds. We’re asking that when you see Deadpool 2, you don’t say a f***ing word about the fun shit in the movie. Cause it’d be super lame to spoil the fact that Deadpool dies in this one. Kidding. Not kidding. Kidding?
Godspeed.
Deadpool 2 shoots for theaters on May 18th, and when it does, moviegoers will be treated to an extra special cameo from none other than [REDACTED].
