Now there’s a headline we didn’t expect to write today…
For his latest promo (see below), Marvel’s meta king Wade Wilson has tapped Céline Dion for Deadpool 2, which will feature the power ballad “Ashes” in its official soundtrack.
This music video, if you can call it one, features every melodramatic trope imaginable, along with an interpretive dance routine featuring Deadpool – in stilettos! – and Dion that plays over a new reel of footage from the upcoming sequel. So when he’s not performing a musical duet with the pop queen, up above you’ll see ‘Pool sharing the screen with his muse, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), and the fire-wielding mutant he’s sworn to protect, Russell (Julian Dennison).
In related news, it seems Ryan Reynolds has been quietly tempting Hugh Jackman out of X-retirement for a possible crossover, even if he fully admits that the Aussie actor is having none of it, particularly after he bid farewell to the X-Men universe with his masterful performance in Logan. You can’t fault Reynolds for trying, of course, but it seems as though that fabled Deadpool/Wolverine team-up movie is pie in the sky.
Per EW:
I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best. I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.
“This thing only goes to 11 – so beat it, Spider-Man!” Deadpool 2 reaches theaters on May 18th, and we simply can’t wait to revel in the hilarity and pop culture references that David Leitch and Ryan Reynolds have in store for us.
