If you search Star Wars: Episode VII on Google, you will come up with all kinds of rumors, many of them stretching back into the land before time. The latest in the long, long list of rumors that as yet have no official confirmation (and probably won’t until the movie actually comes out) refer to the issue of the “Jedi Hunters,” as we reported yesterday. There’s a bit more to be added though, so here we go.
Among those actors being rumored for the rumored Jedi Hunters are CG characters to be played by Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver, and David Oyelowo. Sounds pretty simple, right? Not in the blogosphere. Further reports suggest that David Oyelowo is not going to be playing a Jedi Hunter at all, but another sort of villain that will not be computer generated. We don’t know much more beyond that. We don’t even know if this is true, although Oyelowo has kept popping up as a potential piece of casting for Star Wars: Episode VII.
The term “Jedi Hunters” has also been suggested as a misnomer that fans are focusing too much on. While it does appear that the villains will be dressed like Siths and wield lightsabers, there’s no saying what they will actually be called or how their parts will play out.
Quite honestly, I think the only thing we can really depend on with Star Wars: Episode VII is that the film does exist, it is being directed by J.J. Abrams, and it will be released in December 2015. There will be people in the movie, and I’m fairly positive that there will also be a plot. Beyond that, we should be taking everything with a massive spoonful of salt and trying not to choke.
Star Wars: Episode VII will come to theaters on December 18, 2015.
