Though we’re still one day away from finally seeing the long-awaited first trailer for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, Lionsgate have decided to tide us over with another official image shared via Entertainment Weekly.
In this still, we see David Harbour filling the shoes of Ron Perlman in the title role, alongside two of his co-stars. Sasha Lane of American Honey and The Miseducation of Cameron Post fame plays Alice Monaghan, a woman who developed magical abilities after being kidnapped by fairies as a baby. Lost star Daniel Dae Kim, meanwhile, features as Ben Daimio, a member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense who’s capable of turning into a jaguar. It boggles the mind a little to think that neither of these supporting characters are even the weirdest in the trio.
In any case, it’s likely that we’ll be seeing all three of them in action when the teaser drops tomorrow, though some of you may already have seen some footage if you happened to catch the trailer that leaked online a couple of months ago. When the preview first screened earlier this year at New York Comic Con, the responses were enthusiastic, with the consensus being that director Neil Marshall and Harbour have managed to offer their own distinct take on the character and the crazy world he inhabits.
Early test screenings, meanwhile, have reportedly yielded more of a mixed response, but the latest reactions from a couple of months ago at least hinted at good things to come. Either way, we’ll find out if the new Hellboy can make up for the absence of Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman when the film hits theaters on April 12th, 2019.
