Day by day, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Dave Bautista is willing to stand his ground over the whole Disney/James Gunn ordeal – even if it costs him a plum gig on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Currently out promoting the hardboiled action thriller Final Score, Bautista spoke to HeyUGuys (h/t CBM) about the current status of Guardians 3, and why he has no regrets about voicing his support of the ousted James Gunn.
Ever since Disney finalized its decision earlier this summer, the Avengers: Infinity War actor has been pretty vocal on social media, where he’s called out the Mouse House time and time again for severing ties with Gunn before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had a chance to get off the ground.
And while there are currently no signs of repercussions, it seems Bautista isn’t losing any sleep over his MCU future… or lack thereof.
I’m aware that this could possibly cost me a job I care for very much, but at the same time it’s an integrity issue, it’s a loyalty issue. So I’m not going to bite my tongue for anything, that’s just who I am as a person. I’ve tried to actually be very choosy about what I say and the way I say it. I don’t necessarily mean to be disrespectful but at the same time, I have to say what is on my mind and in my heart. I’ve just been honest.
That’s not to say Dave Bautista is being flippant – far from it, in fact, as the actor also stressed just how much Drax means to him on a personal and professional level. For him, this is more of a loyalty issue, as he’s willing to take a stand and show his solidarity for James Gunn.
It is what it is if it costs me a job that’s just what happens. I always think as it like you can’t threaten a poor man with poverty. I grew up poor, I know what is like. I’m not afraid of losing money, It means nothing to me. I will wrestle in backyards in front of 10 people if I have to make a living. I’m not going to be flexible with my integrity.
As things stand, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on hold until further notice, and while that’s practically unavoidable after losing a director, it seems this extensive delay may have an adverse effect on the story of Avengers 4.
