Now that the dust is beginning to settle from Avengers: Infinity War, and half of the frikin’ universe lies in ruins, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to determine who will live, and who will die. You know, really die. With a capital ‘D.’
Avengers 4 will undoubtedly herald the answers fans so crave, though considering the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth (among others) are fast approaching the end of their respective contracts, it’s all but certain that 2019 will signal the last hurrah for either Iron Man, Thor, Cap…or all three.
That said, we now have reason to believe that at least one fan favorite will be coming out of the fight against Thanos alive: Drax the Destroyer. Yes, the Guardian of the Galaxy is not currently amongst the living, having been reduced to nothing but dust thanks to the Mad Titan snapping his fingers, but come Avengers 4, Drax will be back, back, back. Or at least, that’s according to Dave Bautista.
Speaking to Collider in a recent interview, the actor confirmed that the Destroyer will be in both the Infinity War sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
“I got a lot of texts saying, ‘I can’t believe you’re dead, your character is dead,'” Bautista said. “They were really like heartbroken and I was like ‘I’m gonna be in four. I’m gonna be in Guardians 3.’ I don’t know how they’re bringing me back, yeah but somehow I’m going to make it because, as far as I know, I am going to be in Guardians 3, so I have to be back.”
While it’s certainly nice to hear that Drax hasn’t met his end, the actor’s comments here do bring us back to the question of whether or not Infinity War‘s finale was a bit disingenuous. Yes, it was bold and shocking, but after getting over that initial “WTF?” moment, it’s hard not to feel a bit cheated. I mean, we know everyone who “died” during Thanos’ snap is somehow going to return in Avengers 4, thus diminishing the impact of the Mad Titan’s actions.
And Bautista only drives home that point even more. Like with Spider-Man, Black Panther, etc., it’s obvious that Drax isn’t gone for good. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is already confirmed, after all, and it’d be unwise to think that Marvel would go ahead and make that movie without him. And sure enough, as the actor says, he’s going to be in it.
But we digress. Come 2019, Avengers 4 will tend to unfinished business, as the remaining members of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes work to undo Thanos’ universe-wide genocide and bring their friends back to life – including Drax the Destroyer.
