According to Wally Pfister, the cinematographer on The Dark Knight Rises, moviegoers can expect around an hour of action when the film hits theatres on July 20th. Pfister revealed this while speaking at the Campus MovieFest today, which is the world’s largest student film festival. According to audience members who were live tweeting the event, Pfister said that there would be an hour or so of fight scenes spread throughout the film.
Though it may seem like a lot, it’s important to remember that the film will be close to three hours. So, in reality, it’s really only just over one-third of the movie, which I think is reasonable. After all, this is a blockbuster, director Christopher Nolan can’t exactly just fill the film with dialogue and character development, there needs to be an above average amount of action to keep moviegoers entertained, right?
To be honest, I’m not sure how much action was in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight but it would be interesting to see if those films included more or less. Without knowing the exact amount though, it’s hard to really compare. An hour does seem like a lot but then again, maybe it’s less than what the first two Batman films included.
What do you think? Is an hour of action too much?
