More than a decade ago, esteemed filmmaker Ang Lee introduced the western world to the deft art of wire-fighting with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Fast forward to now and Netflix is on the verge of upholding that time-honored legacy with the release of long-anticipated sequel Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny.
Due to make its bow in only a few days’ time, Netflix has unleashed the final trailer for the sequel formerly known as the The Green Legend. As you’ll likely notice right off the bat, Michelle Yeoh and the core cast are speaking in English, and that comes down to the fact that the producers behind Sword of Destiny are confident the martial arts sequel can appeal to an international audience.
Reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien – and proving that it’s better to have five warriors that can fight than 500 that can run – is Yeoh, who goes through Hell and high water to prevent the title armament from falling into the hands of a malevolent warlord. Expect a flurry of sword-dancing action come February 26, and the official logline describes the follow-up as so:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny tells an epic story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption, set against breathtaking action in an epic martial arts battle between good and evil that will decide the fate of the Martial World.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny will whip up a storm when Yuen Woo-Ping’s actioner hits Netflix on Friday, February 26.
