Nipping at the heels of Infinity War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have now switched gears to orchestrate the second, conclusive chapter in their two-part epic, which presumably pits Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Thanos for the final time in May of 2019. So far, most of the titular heroes have been confirmed to be appearing in the superhero extravaganza, but today, we’re hearing that someone rather unexpected may be involved, too: Crossbones.

Having been originally introduced simply as Brock Rumlow, a sleeper agent of Hydra, in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he ironically saw his screentime reduced when he finally emerged as a full-blown Crossbones two years later in Civil War. And, of course, he met his demise in the opening salvo.

Still, there are True Believers out there who’d like to see one of the Sentinel of Liberty’s greatest modern foes return at some point (including the man who played him, Frank Grillo). After all, if the comics themselves can undo deaths, then surely their cinematic brethren can, too, right?

Well, it looks like those fans might just get their wish, as apparently, Grillo has been spotted on set. Granted, this hasn’t been confirmed by any actual photos and is instead relayed to us by a Redditor, who’s an extra on Avengers 4 and claims he’s seen the actor.

As such, we’d advise taking this with a pinch of salt for now, but in a universe which has seen characters defy death left, right and center, it’s totally possible that Crossbones could be revealed to have survived. Maybe Captain America 4 could even introduce the Masters of Evil and bring him back as one of their members, as per the comics? Time will tell, but for now, it seems as if Frank Grillo isn’t done with the MCU just yet.
