Guillermo del Toro may be having little luck within the video game space – namely, the Silent Hills cancellation – and the ongoing troubles with his Pacific Rim sequel, but the director is on the verge of returning to a genre that he knows and loves with Crimson Peak. And now, with little over a week away from its theatrical bow, the studio has debuted a featurette and clip for the unique, R-rated gothic horror.
Showcasing just enough secrets from Allerdale Hall to have us gleeful – and petrified – with excitement, the behind-the-scenes clip really underlines the craftsmanship that went into building the decrepit abode for Crimson Peak. It is, in essence, a haunted house like no other, with del Toro and the film’s design team going the extra mile to ensure that the house simply oozes atmosphere. Heck, we’d even go so far as to describe it as one of the horror’s leading characters.
In tandem with the featurette, we have an all-new clip for del Toro’s return to horror, revealing a quaint scene between Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) and Jessica Chastian’s deranged, narcissistic Lady Lucille Sharpe. As loving sister to Tom Hiddleston’s Thomas, Chastian’s character is riddled with a very peculiar brand of envy, and her real intentions are only revealed when Thomas whisks his newfound love Edith back to Allerdale Hall.
Also starring Jim Beaver and Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam, Crimson Peak will loom into theaters on October 16.
When her heart is stolen by a seductive stranger, a young woman is swept away to a house atop a mountain of blood-red clay: a place filled with secrets that will haunt her forever. Between desire and darkness, between mystery and madness, lies the truth behind Crimson Peak. From the imagination of director Guillermo del Toro comes a supernatural mystery starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam.
