It appears Jessica Chastain isn’t content to only work with Guillermo del Toro the producer, as the Oscar-nominated actress has now joined the director’s upcoming haunted house flick Crimson Peak.
Chastain recently starred in the del Toro-produced Mama, which surprised many moviegoers by actually being quite good. If you know her from nothing else, you’ll recognize her from last year’s Zero Dark Thirty for which she received a best actress nomination. She’s a talented actress who has really blossomed over the last couple years, and no film is going to be worse for having added her.
The cast was exciting enough when it was just Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam, but with the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch and now Chastain, this is shaping up to be a star-studded film that should really have horror fans excited.
It was originally assumed that Stone and Hunnam would be the leads, but with actors the caliber of Cumberbatch and Chastain attached to the project, it’s hard to say just who will be starring in the most significant roles.
Details about the plot still remain sparse, but del Toro has described it as different from the typical haunted house film in that it’s more of a Gothic romance set at the turn of the century. He said the film is a very set-oriented, modern take on the traditional ghost story. We’ve also heard that the story is about a woman who discovers that her husband may not be who he appears to be. While that’s all very general, it’s still enough to have me intrigued and anxiously awaiting more details.
Crimson Peak is scheduled to begin shooting in early 2014, so it may still be a while until we have anything concrete in terms of roles or story, but be sure to check back, as we’ll bring you that news as soon as it comes in.
