Even James Wan probably couldn’t have guessed at the time how iconic his 2013 film The Conjuring would go on to be. The horror flick has since spawned an abundance of acclaimed sequels and spinoffs since its inception six years ago. That’s a trend that doesn’t appear to be stopping any time soon, either. Even before the recent release of the well-received Annabelle Comes Home, those in charge were already planning how the spooky franchise could branch out next. In fact, it’s even teased in the movie itself.
Series mainstays Ed and Lorraine Warren are constantly dealing with supernatural forces beyond most people’s comprehension. During one particular scene in the latest film, a document is shown that tells a tale of a person who gets possessed by a werewolf. This detail was apparently planted on purpose in order tease the next installment of the series.
Both Wan and the movie’s writer/director Gary Dauberman have already said on the record that they’d love for the franchise to explore the eerie story and now, it looks like they’re going to get their wish. That’s because according to sources close to WGTC, the next spinoff in the franchise will focus on the aforementioned werewolf.
While nothing’s been officially announced yet by anyone, we at least now know with relative certainty where the series is headed next. The Warrens lived fascinating lives, after all, which opens the door for countless new ideas that could horrify moviegoers well into the future. As long as Wan and his cronies continue to bring the scares, it won’t be hard to pack seats with anything that has to do with The Conjuring franchise.
But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Annabelle Comes Home is currently playing in theaters worldwide, while the details of the upcoming werewolf spinoff are still being sorted out. Once we learn more about it though, we’ll be sure to let you know.
