The Little Mermaid
Crew: Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda will be providing the songs alongside the original movie’s Alan Menken. Miranda will also produce.
Cast: No news on that front yet.
Is it a Musical? Totally.
Worth it? We’re not in desperate need of a new Little Mermaid, seeing as there are already two other versions – an independent production and another from Universal – also in the works. Still, Miranda and Menken will no doubt make this a toe-tapping, enjoyable musical experience.
Maleficent 2
Crew: The original movie’s writer, Linda Woolverton, has returned to pen the sequel. It’s currently unknown if Maleficent director Robert Stromberg – the first film was his only full-length directorial credit to date – will come back.
Cast: Well, naturally, this one couldn’t happen without the involvement of Maleficent herself, Angelina Jolie.
Worth It? Seeing as Maleficent already covered the original plot of Sleeping Beauty, albeit from an alternate angle, we’re not sure what point there is in a follow-up. Maybe Disney will pull something out of the hat, but we’re not eagerly awaiting this one.
