Park Chan-wook‘s first English language film, Stoker, is starting to take off. The Korean director recently cast Mia Wasikowska and now he’s looking to bring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman on board. A number of names have been linked to this project, including Jodie Foster, Johnny Depp and Carey Mulligan. You can be sure that the film will draw a solid cast, considering Park Chan-Wook is behind the camera.
Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller has penned the script which is about “a teenager who, after the death of her father, must deal with a mysterious uncle who returns to spend time with the family.” Speaking about the script, Miller said the following about it:
“There’s a leaping-off point in Stoker that was directly inspired by Shadow of a Doubt. Also, the character name is Uncle Charlie and the prequel’s called Uncle Charlie, so that’s a tip of the hat.”
I’m really looking forward to this one. Oldboy (Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film) is one of my favorite films and this project looks very interesting. Firth and Kidman would make for some fantastic casting additions and I really hope they sign on. I’m going to be keeping a close eye on this project so I’ll be sure to keep you updated on anymore news regarding it.
