The always reliable Christopher Walken has been cast in Clint Eastwood’s upcoming adaptation of the hit musical Jersey Boys. Though the lead roles of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons will be going to actors from the various stage productions, the other parts will be played by film actors and Walken is one of the first to sign on.
Deadline reports that the actor will play mobster Angelo “Gyp” DeCarlo, who “helps the singers keep their career straight early on.” They also report that the lead roles have gone to Vincent Piazza, John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen and Michael Lomenda. Apparently Eastwood handpicked all of these young gentlemen.
That’s about all we have to go on right now but with Eastwood behind the camera, and a property as hot as Jersey Boys, you can bet that more big name actors will be joining the film in the near future. When we hear more, we’ll let you know!
Though I did love the stage version of Jersey Boys, I am remaining cautiously optimistic about the film adaptation. Hollywood already ruined another one of my favorite plays (Rock of Ages) and though both Eastwood and Walken are proven talents, I’m still a bit uneasy about this film. Hopefully it all works out though because Jersey Boys really is a fantastic play, with some excellent music too. If everything comes together and all goes well, it could make for a pretty great movie.
What do you think? Are you excited for this project?
