After a recent fad of fairytale movies swept Hollywood (Snow White and The Huntsman, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, Mirror Mirror etc.), the focus seems to have shifted to Biblical epics, with Darren Aronofsky hard at work on Noah, Ang Lee eyeing Gods and Kings and now, Ridley Scott’s Exodus, which has caught the eye of Christian Bale.
The film was originally penned by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage but the new draft was written by Steve Zaillian. Scott is hoping to shoot the film once he finishes up The Counsellor and Fox is hoping to move quickly on this one, seeing as Gods and Kings (also a Moses based film) is starting to shape up.
Bale, of course, has his eye on the lead role, that of Moses. While nothing is confirmed just yet, with the studio hoping to get this into production sooner than later, you can expect to hear something more firm in the near future.
From what we’re hearing, Gods and Kings will be more of a complete look at the life of the famous Biblical figure while Exodus will likely take its story from the book of the same name, which details the Jews’ exodus from Egypt and their 40 years spent in the desert.
Both projects sound tremendously exciting, especially with the talent attached. Casting Bale is a fantastic choice and one that is spot on. I think he could really pull off the part and give Charlton Heston (who played Moses in The Ten Commandments), a run for his money.
With all these biblical films being pushed into production, it will be interesting to see how the various filmmakers portray these epic stories. It will also be interesting to see how these films fare with the general public. If they do well, you can expect a number of other biblical stories to get film treatments in the near future.
For now though, tell us, what do you think of Christian Bale playing Moses inĀ Exodus?
