Chris Pratt knows. He knows we don’t like him playing every animated character ever. He knows we don’t like how he treats his ex and their son, and he knows we’re not fans of his Mario voice. Despite all this, he soldiers on – taking it on the chin and realizing he needs to play along or things will get much worse.
Pratt, along with Super Mario Bros. Movie costar Charlie Day, shared a short video where he gave everyone a “sneak peak” at the Mario voice.
“TOP SECRET EXCLUSIVE hear the real, raw, unfiltered, and 100% authentic voices of Mario and Luigi like never before!,” he wrote.
Only it wasn’t. The Mario voice, that is. He then delivered Mario’s iconic line, “It’s me Mario,” but sounding like someone who just swallowed a pine cone. Well, at least he knows.
Day, not to be upstaged, did his version of the Luigi voice by pantoming a whole thing but silently. It’s funny! They are both funny, and we’re all hoping that Pratt doesn’t take down one of our most beloved franchises with his shenanigans.
Hype for the movie continues to build daily, especially with the recent opening of Super Nintendo World (with Brie Larson!) Nintendo recently announced it would debut the final trailer before the movie comes out on March 9. Then it’s smooth sailing until the movie releases.
A teaser image for the new trailer shows Mario and the gang riding karts on Rainbow Road, one of the most notoriously difficult tracks in the Super Mario Kart franchise. Who’s pumped?
The Super Mario Bros. Movie will slide into theaters on April 7.
