The God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, believes J.J. Abrams has cooked up an “amazing pitch” for Paramount’s Star Trek 4.
Word comes by way of MTV (hat tip to Screen Rant), who interviewed Hemsworth on the red carpet during last night’s Golden Globes ceremony. It was here that the Thor actor took time to offer a fleeting update on the progress of Star Trek 4, confirming that he’s met with J.J. Abrams – a stalwart of Paramount and Bad Robot’s rebooted series from the get-go – at least once to discuss the embryonic project, which is seemingly shaping up quite nicely.
“I’ve spoken to J.J., and he has an amazing pitch on the whole thing.”
Abrams, who helmed both Star Trek and Into Darkness before shifting gears in time for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, remains involved in Paramount’s franchise in a producing capacity. That means he’ll be instrumental in getting the sequel off the ground, and though it’s still early, early days, the mere fact that Hemsworth is set to reprise as George Kirk hints at the type of father-son story that J.J. Abrams is aiming for.
An early logline for Star Trek 4 confirms as much, revealing that “in the next installment of the epic space adventure, Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.”
Star Trek 4 is without a release date or even an official title at the moment, but we’ll be keeping track of Paramount’s planned sequel as it nears production. Next up for Chris Hemsworth is Thor: Ragnarok later in 2017, which has made room in its ranks for a Doctor Strange cameo.
