In case you didn’t hear the news last week, it’s been reported that Harvey Weinstein wants to cut Bong Joon-ho’s latest film, Snowpiercer, by 20 minutes in order to turn it into a more streamlined action film for English-speaking audiences, with the implication being that he thinks American audiences would be too dumb to understand it as is.

The film has already been a great success in South Korea, where Chris Evans recently returned from promoting it. In a brief interview, we finally get to hear a little about what the star has to say in regards to the prospect of the film being trimmed down. As an actor, he obviously has to be a little careful about what he says (he calls it “tricky” several times), but he basically seems to agree with the interviewer, who delivers a few choice expletives regarding Weinstein’s decision to chop out 20 minutes and add voiceovers to the beginning and end of the film.

Evans has nothing but great things to say about the film, particularly praising the beauty of it and Tilda Swinton’s performance. That falls in line with the fantastic buzz that’s been circling the film ever since it started playing overseas, which, just to clarify, pertains to the full version of the film that runs about 125 minutes.

As to whether or not Weinstein will do as the reporter suggests (show the full version in some theaters at least), I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when it hits theaters later this year. At the very least, hopefully we’ll get to see the full version when it inevitably hits Blu-Ray sometime next year.

The following interview also includes discussions on other topics (Dunkin’ Donuts, Evans’ directing debut), so if you’re just looking for the Snowpiercer section, skip ahead to about 1:45.

What do you think about Weinstein’s decision to fiddle with Joon-ho’s film? What do you think the best solution to this problem is? Check out the interview below and let us know in the comments!
