As per last Friday’s announcement, principal photography has now been completed for Star Wars: Episode IX, and as the subsequent wrap party unfolded, actor Joonas Suotamo took to the time to shout out one colleague in particular.
Though Chewbacca has been a part of the Star Wars franchise since the beginning, Suotamo first wore the hairy outfit for 2015’s The Force Awakens, which also happens to be when Finn actor John Boyega came on board. And with the pair’s run in the Sequel Trilogy now at an end, Suotamo took to Twitter with a wrap party photo of the two of them, along with a short message:
“What a party! Gonna miss working with this guy!!! @JohnBoyega #WrapParty”
Boyega had a post-wrap message of his own last Friday, taking to social media to declare: “That’s a wrap on Star Wars episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn’t be more thankful for.” Director J.J. Abrams, meanwhile, marked their final day with a set photo of Boyega sharing a hug with his co-stars Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac.
It may feel like the end of an era for the Star Wars cast and crew, but so far, the general public has yet to get much of a glimpse of the Sequel Trilogy’s final installment. Mind you, Boyega himself has been fairly helpful in offering the odd clue, from his reported claim that the film will feature a one-year time-jump, to an Instagram post last month that teased a “visually crazy” scene.
Nonetheless, fans are currently hoping that Lucasfilm is finally feeling ready to offer something solid from their next feature, be it a teaser or a title reveal. But regardless of what the coming weeks bring, we’ll be seeing Boyega, Suotamo and the rest of the gang together at least one more time when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
