Here at We Got This Covered, we’re big fans of Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, the talented director-writer pair behind A Horrible Way to Die, both V/H/S horror anthologies and this past summer’s frightfest You’re Next. Now, the duo are gearing up for their next collaboration, an action-thriller called The Guest.
Three action-packed images from the upcoming film have landed online today, promising gunfights, breakneck chases and a picturesque small-town setting. Though the pics, which you can check out at the bottom of this article, don’t reveal much about The Guest‘s plot, they do suggest a pretty intense thriller.
The Guest was recently announced as one of the eight Park City at Midnight films premiering at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The official synopsis reads as follows:
A soldier on leave befriends the family of a fallen comrade. He soon becomes a threat to everyone around him when it’s revealed he’s not who he says he is.
That’s a pretty vague summary, but more details about The Guest will surely emerge as its premiere draws closer. Wingard and Barrett are two of the hottest names in arthouse cinema right now, so expectations for this one are understandably high. Whether the film ends up exploring sociopathy, PTSD, combat-related amnesia or something far more convoluted, we’re in for a thrilling, terrifying ride.
One image focuses on former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens, who will play David, the menacing ex-soldier at the film’s center. Based on that combat-ready stance, it’s safe to say that David’s reasons for befriending his comrade’s family members are a lot more sinister than initial appearances suggest. The other two images show off leading actress Maika Monroe, who plays Anna, the sister of a recently-deceased soldier who is immediately suspicious of David.
The Guest also stars Brendan Meyer (pictured alongside Monroe in one shot), Lance Reddick, Leland Orser and Chase Williamson.
