After laying low for most of 2014 following its stellar reception at Sundance in January, thriller The Guest is finally back in the headlines, with new trailers hitting the web ahead of the film’s September release. We couldn’t be more excited to see it – hailing from You’re Next writer Simon Barrett and director Adam Wingard, The Guest looks like a stylish, pulpy throwback filled with fun performances and steeped in atmosphere. A few days ago, a tense new trailer was released, and now a second, U.K. preview has landed online, with an emphasis on the film’s Carpenter-esque style.
Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey fame stars as the title character, an enigmatic drifter who arrives on the doorstep of a dead soldier’s family, claiming to be one of his friends from the military. When it becomes clear that this guest is not who he says he is, the revelation sets off a chain reaction of bloody and unexpected events.
Our own Dominic Mill was a big fan of The Guest when he caught it in Park City, calling it “an absolute blast from beginning to end” and awarding it four stars. Other critics have been similarly kind, praising both the tone and direction. You’ll have a chance to see The Guest for yourself soon enough – the film opens September 17th.
In the meantime, you can check out the U.K. trailer in addition to a stylish new poster.
