With The World’s End set to premiere in America later this month – check out our early review here – little promotions for the conclusion of Edgar Wright’s Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy have been popping up everywhere. For fans, all of them are awesome, but this latest one is particularly cool as it allows you to download and play around with the entire screenplay for Shaun of the Dead.
The annotated, interactive screenplay gives us behind the scenes photos, anecdotes and illustrations from Edgar Wright’s 2004 zombie apocalypse comedy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. You can watch pieces of the film, check out storyboards and get a glimpse inside the process of making the film. This is chance to view Shaun of the Dead in a whole new light. It’s very rare for filmmakers to simply volunteer their screenplays for public consumption, so take advantage of this one!
Shaun Of The Dead was the beginning of the Cornetto trilogy, and some would say it’s still the best of the three. I’ll hold out judgment until I’ve actually seen The World’s End but for now, I still give a little bit of an edge to Hot Fuzz, just because I was never a big fan of the zombie genre to begin with. Hot Fuzz feels more polished than the rough-around-the-edges Shaun of the Dead. But you know what? They’re all fun.
There’s rumor that we’ll also get the full Hot Fuzz screenplay before long, so we’ll keep an eye out for that. Then we’ll watch both films and head off to the theatre for the conclusion of this finest of trilogies.
The World’s End premieres August 23. If early buzz from around the world is any indication, it’s going to be a good one.
