Charlie Hunnam On Playing Green Arrow: “DC, Give Me A Call”

It has long been the wish of an overwhelming number of DC fans that Charlie Hunnam play Oliver Queen AKA Green Arrow in the DC Extended Universe. Visually, the blonde and bearded Brit is a perfect match for the Emerald Archer, but also he has proven himself a natural at portraying swashbuckling heroes. For instance, the titular role in Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

It’s long been the wish of an overwhelming number of DC fans that Charlie Hunnam play Oliver Queen AKA Green Arrow in the DC Extended Universe. Visually, the blonde and bearded Brit is a perfect match for the Emerald Archer, but he’s also proven himself a natural at portraying swashbuckling heroes. For instance, the titular role in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

In a recent interview with Brazilian website Omelette, the topic of playing Green Arrow came up and, surprisingly, Hunnam seems perfectly open to the idea. See what he had to say in the video below (at the 16:00 time stamp):

Or, if you prefer the power of the written word, here’s a transcript of his reply:

“You know, I’m not a comic book fan so I don’t really know the Green Arrow. Do I look like him? Have they made a Green Arrow film? … Well, come on, DC, what’s up? Give me a call!”

His reaction here is a big step up from his answer the last time that he was asked if he would be interested in playing the part. Back in March, Hunnam said that playing a superhero “wasn’t part of his vision for his career or what I aspire to be.” It seemed like a pretty clear no on the matter at the time, but a few months later he now seems to be more open to the idea.

It would be handy for the actor if he did get to play Green Arrow, seeing as the hopes of following up King Arthur with five more movies are almost certainly dead and buried, after the movie colossally failed to light up the box office on its opening weekend.

In the meantime, we can still enjoy Oliver Queen’s exploits on the small screen on The CW’s Arrow, which is currently nearing its season 5 finale.
