Now, it’s important to remember that wishlists are a dime a dozen. These things pop up all the time over Hollywood and are nothing more than a studio exec or filmmaker expressing their interest in certain actors joining a project. However, they do often give us a good idea of what type of actor a studio is going for, and with Sinister Six in particular, I find it interesting that Sony is aiming so high.
From the looks of it, they’ve got their sights set on multiple Oscar-winners and mostly A-list actors for these roles. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but seeing as the Amazing Spider-Man franchise is under quite a bit of fire and critical backlash right now, I think that the studio may have some trouble attracting top tier talent. Then again, this is still Spider-Man that we’re talking about, and while I could never see someone like George Clooney or Denzel Washington in a comic book movie, people like Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, etc., are still definite possibilities.
But once again, all of this is very far from confirmed, and with the studio’s plans for their Spidey franchise up in the air at the moment, we don’t even know if they’ll push ahead with a Venom or Sinister Six spinoff anymore.
For now, however, it’s interesting stuff to ponder, and hopefully we’ll be getting a definite answer from Sony in the near future about how they’re going to proceed with one of cinema’s most popular characters.
