Let it be known that Steven Soderbergh has tabled talk of his self-imposed retirement – for now, at least – and is back, back, back in time for Logan Lucky, a NASCAR heist drama with a truly star-studded ensemble to match.
Bleecker Street is joining forces with Soderbergh’s Fingerprint Releasing to launch the project and it’s set to screech into theatres later this summer. Though we had a photo from the film find its way online a few months back, it seems that the marketing campaign is about to get underway in earnest now as today brings forth the first trailer, which sees Channing Tatum and Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) suited, booted and up to no good.
The actors will be playing two brothers – Jimmy (Tatum) and Clyde Logan (Driver) – who set about reversing a family curse by executing an elaborate robbery during the famous Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte (NC) Motor Speedway. On board to help them is a near unrecognizable Daniel Craig, who looks to be having one hell of a good time in the role.
As part of his commitment to injecting a sense of realism into Logan Lucky, we understand that Soderbergh shot most of his star-studded heist during the actual race, as well as at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In fact, six real-life NASCAR drivers have cameos in the pic, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
In terms of that aforementioned ensemble, Soderbergh’s latest features Riley Keough, Hilary Swank, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes, Katherine Waterston, Dwight Yoakam, Sebastian Stan, David Denman, Macon Blair, Jack Quaid and Brian Gleeson.
Logan Lucky speeds into theaters on August 18th.
