Venice Film Festival is currently playing host to the feature-length version of Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey, Terrence Malick’s long-anticipated space opus designed to streamline the story of the cosmos.

Recounting 13.8 billion years worth of interstellar history is no mean feat, of course, but as today’s new trailer attests, Malick has enlisted the dulcet tones of Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok) to narrate, well, Life’s Journey in all of its majesty. Set to premiere at TIFF following its bow at Venice, there’s currently no word of a theatrical release date for Malick’s feature, though we understand the truncated, Brad Pitt-narrated IMAX version – simply titled Voyage of Time – is booked in to land in select theaters come October 7

It’ll run for 40 minutes in total, and you can see how it’s shaping up right here. Meanwhile, The Playlist has unearthed a pair of clips for Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey, introducing us to Blanchett’s schooled narrator. Given the sheer beauty on display, we’re betting many moviegoers will hold out to experience Malick’s latest where it belongs: on the IMAX screen.

Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience is a one-of-a-kind celebration of life and the grand history of the cosmos, transporting audiences into a vast yet up-close-and personal journey that spans the eons from the Big Bang to the dinosaur age to our present human world … and beyond. A labor of love from one of American cinema’s most acclaimed and visually exciting filmmakers, Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life), Voyage of Time has been nearly four decades in the making and represents the filmmaker’s first foray into documentary storytelling. The film’s panorama of awe-inspiring images will take you into the heart of monumental events never witnessed — from the birth of the stars and galaxies to the explosion of diverse life-forms on planet earth, including humankind — in immersive new ways that only IMAX can deliver. This is a cosmic experience — a hymn to the glories of nature, life and scientific discovery — in which all the elements come together to form Malick’s most original film to date.
