David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film may have found its Harley Quinn, as Latino Review claims that they were “tipped off by sources” that Warner Bros. is eyeing 22 year-old English model, actress and singer Cara Delevingne for “the villainous female role” in the project.
While there’s no confirmation that that part is in fact Harley, it’s possible that the fan-favorite love interest of the Joker will make her big screen debut in Suicide Squad. She’s a new core member thanks to DC’s New 52 relaunch, and she would be an immediate way to hook audiences who either don’t know what the Suicide Squad is or are unsure about watching a movie centered on a team of supervillains.
It’s also entirely possible that Delevingne is up for a different role, such as Killer Frost, Vixen, or any other female villain that’s graced the pages of DC Comics over the last several decades. Latino Review notes that Harley was not included in an original draft of the script, but that may very well have changed now that Ayer is on board and taking his own crack at the screenplay.
This would certainly be a big win for Delevingne, who began her acting career only two years ago as Princess Sorokina in Anna Karenina. She’s also being considered for a role in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and will next be seen in Joe Wright’s Pan in 2015.
Tell us, do you think Delevingne would make a good Harley Quinn? Or do you think she’s better suited for another DC villain role? Let us know in the comments section below.
Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on August 5th, 2016.
