We’re still waiting for that first trailer for Captain Marvel to land but, while we wait, we’ve at least got this scene description courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, which gives us a small tease of what to expect from Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers in the MCU’s first female-led movie.
EW were on set to witness a sequence filmed in what was once a sand quarry in Simi Valley, California until the production team transformed it into the alien planet Torfa (familiar to comics fans from the 2014 Captain Marvel series), with blue-coloured sand and enormous stone archways.
Carol’s on the exotic world with Starforce, the elite squad of Kree soldiers that the heroine will be a part of when the film kicks off. Starforce is there to search for a missing spy but as the environment’s engulfed by a thick fog, the team’s comms are non-operational, meaning the task is complicated. And what’s more, there’s a creep factor to this scene, too, as shapeshifting Skrulls are also thought to be in the area.
Jude Law’s Starforce Commander (that’s all he’s been officially called right now) then gives the all-clear, but the strong-headed Carol rushes before her teammates. It seems the former Air Force pilot will have a problem with her impulsiveness and tendency to rush in without thinking.
That’s where the description ends, but it definitely promises an intriguing scene. In particular, the use of the fog to mask the Skrulls gives us just a hint at how they can be used as effective, chilling villains. Let’s hope the movie really capitalizes on that. The dynamic between Mar-Vell – come on, he’s got to be, right? – and Carol is already beginning to form in our heads as well, as it seems Danvers is not the sort of soldier to follow orders.
Keep an eye out for the Captain Marvel trailer to drop at some point in the next few weeks, and in the meantime, feel free to let us know your thoughts on what we know about the movie so far in the comments section down below.
