With less than two months to go until Captain Marvel arrives in theaters, it’s never been more evident that the marketing for Carol Danvers’ solo debut has done its job, with the movie already beating out many of its fellow Marvel entries in pre-sales.
Despite advance tickets only just going on sale a few days ago, Fandango reports that Captain Marvel is currently the site’s third best pre-sale performer of the Marvel franchise, sitting behind only Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis has issued a statement sharing his thoughts on the recent success, too, saying:
“We’re seeing fantastic advance ticket sales for Captain Marvel because it’s a historic film for Marvel Studios, one that fans have been waiting to see for a decade. As the studio’s first female-driven superhero film, Captain Marvel is a benchmark moment for the genre, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and for star Brie Larson, who will play the most powerful Marvel superhero to date.”
Arriving a couple of months before the release of the next Avengers movie, Captain Marvel is very much looking to be the Black Panther of Marvel’s 2019 release schedule, in that serves as a significant step forward for representation in the superhero saga. And in much the way that T’Challa’s solo debut proved to be a world-conquering smash, the early ticket sales for Carol’s first film seem to reflect its cultural significance. What’s more, Fandango isn’t the only site with good news to report about the MCU’s next release, with Atom Tickets also revealing that Captain Marvel has so far outpaced every Marvel release in pre-sales save for Infinity War.
Needless to say, Marvel Studios has another hit on their hands, and if the film can deliver on all the hype, then you can expect to see plenty more of Carol Danvers in the coming years.
