Even by the MCU’s own lofty standards, Vision is a peculiar character.
First introduced in Joss Whedon’s Age of Ultron, the towering synthetic is the near-perfect fusion of J.A.R.V.I.S., the Mind Stone, a vibranium-infused body and the voice of Paul Bettany (Han Solo). It is, essentially, a mind-melting combination of myth and science – of the real, and the fantasy – and Marvel fans can look forward to Vision floating back onto the silver screen via Avengers: Infinity War next year.
Filming on Joe and Anthony Russo’s super-sized blockbuster has already wrapped, but true to their word, the Russo Brothers are already hard at work shooting the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 – for what it’s worth, Marvel’s historic ensemble piece is yet to unveil its title because it seemingly spoils the outcome of Infinity War.
And so, after previous set photos drew attention to the Stark/Banner duo and a potentially massive story spoiler, Thor: Ragnarok‘s Mark Ruffalo captured Vision doing some paperwork. Who knew an infinitely powerful being would still have to pour over such a monotonous, everyday choir?
Without a caption to accompany this rather candid pic, it’s unclear whether Ruffalo’s snap was taken on the set of Infinity War or Avengers 4. Production on the latter is now in full swing ahead of its launch in 2019, so we assume this particularly striking portrait of Vision was shot on Marvel’s fourth Avengers movie.
If nothing else, it’s another timely reminder of the exhaustive make-up process involved in the creation of Vision, and we imagine Paul Bettany spends hours slipping into costume before he can begin filming his scenes. So why not indulge in a little paperwork to pass the time?
Soon after Infinity War lights up theaters on May 4th, 2018, Joe and Anthony Russo will unleash Avengers 4 upon the world in May of 2019. Filming is already underway on the streets of Atlanta, which may go some ways to explaining why Sony’s Venom spinoff is yet to enter production.
