South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have had major success with their Broadway musical The Book of Mormon. The play has won multiple Tony awards, including Best Musical, and will soon get a cinematic version. According to Entertainment Weekly, Parker and Stone have confirmed that they will bring the Broadway smash to the big screen.
The play follows a pair of Mormon missionaries looking for converts in a remote village in Uganda that is threatened by a brutal warlord. The two missionaries try their best to convert the locals, but are having trouble making a connection when the area is plagued with AIDS, famine and poverty, issues the locals are very worried about.
The musical is planning more tour dates, including Denver, Colorado and Chicago, Illinois in 2012. Parker and Stone have not released much information about the film version, but they are certain that it will be made.
In the meantime, the boys are currently working on the second half of the current season of South Park, which is set to debut on October 5th on Comedy Central.
