Olivia Wilde has dropped out of Daniel Barber’s The Keeping Room (apparently that title is being changed) and replacing her in the Civil War-era dramatic thriller will be up and coming actress Brit Marling, who is starting to make quite the name for herself. Co-starring Hailee Steinfeld and Nicole Beharie, the film will see Marling and Steinfeld play sisters who, “along with an African-American slave (Beharie), are forced to defend their Southern home from soldiers who have broken off from the fast-approaching Union Army.”
It’s unknown why Wilde had to drop out but it’s most likely due to scheduling conflicts. Personally, whatever the reason is, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m just thrilled to see Marling in another film. After breaking out with the indie darling Another Earth, the young actress has been taking Hollywood by storm. She was terrific in the recently released Robert Redford film, The Company You Keep, and has built up a solid list of credits over the past couple of years, giving off great performances in films like Arbitrage and Sound of My Voice. She also has a new film coming out titled The East, which will hit theatres on May 31st.
Though the plot of The Keeping Room doesn’t have me too excited, the fact that Marling and Steinfeld will be leading it is what’s caught my attention. These are two of the most talented up and coming actresses currently working in Hollywood and I’m a huge fan of both these young stars.
Even if The Keeping Room turns out to be a dud, I’m sure that we’ll still get to, at the very least, enjoy two wonderful performances. That being said, the script for the film was featured on the 2010 Black List, so who knows? There may be more to the film than just the two talented ladies leading it.
