We already made it through the Ben Affleck saga and earlier this week it was Andy and Lana Wachowski, but can fans awaiting the Justice League movie endure this latest name added to the rumored director shortlist?
Superman Super Site reports Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand) is also being considered for the coveted job of bringing DC’s finest together at last.
The site claims to have a source close to the project who has told them the following:
“The studio is very pleased with the work that Brett (Ratner) has done as a producer and director on past projects. They are now very interested in seeing what he can do with helping finally bring this group of iconic superheroes to the big screen!”
I’m not sure to what extent fans will agree with that assessment. I’ll admit that I really liked the Rush Hour films when they first came out and thought Tower Heist was more entertaining than I ever expected, but the consensus among fans is that Ratner butchered the tone of the final film of the original X-Men trilogy; hiring him would be a clear dedication to a light and humor-oriented Justice League.
In terms of availability, Ratner doesn’t have any directing projects on his plate except for the speculation over a fourth Rush Hour film, so it’s a reasonable suggestion in that sense.
Warner Bros. has said nothing publicly about Justice League other than Gangster Squad scribe Will Beale wrote the script, so all the news surrounding a director continues to be speculation.
As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
