Brand New Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Blasts Online

As promised, Disney's delivered a brand new, full-length trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it pains a pretty exciting picture of what's to come.

Pegged to arrive on May 25th, Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently simmering in post-production, where Ron Howard and the technical wizards of Industrial Light & Magic are running the rule over Han Solo’s maiden voyage.

It’s shaping up to be a doozy, too, what with the all-star cast – Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover…to name but three – and incredible attention to detail. Much like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi before it, there also appears to be a greater emphasis on practical effects over CGI – gone are the days when 75 percent of a Star Wars movie was rendered digitally. And while that’s all very exciting, there’s still been an unmistakable air of concern surrounding the pic for months now.

Most of that’s due to its troubled production, but here to ease our worries is a brand new trailer (seen above). It’s about time we got one, too, as other than the preview that aired during the Super Bowl back in February, we haven’t really seen much from the Anthology film. Thankfully, the footage we received tonight paints a promising picture (though we’re still not too sure about Ehrenreich’s portrayal of the titular hero), showing us that Solo may have been able to escape all those behind the scenes hurdles unscathed, emerging as another thrilling and enjoyable entry into one of cinema’s most beloved franchises.

At the very least, it does sound like Lucasfilm has confidence in the movie, as it was recently announced that it’ll have a glittering premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15th. That’s not a cast-iron guarantee of quality, but it’s nice to see that the studio isn’t trying to hide or embargo opinions of the pic ahead of its full release.

Punch it, Chewie! Solo swoops into theaters on May 25th and when it does, it’ll be remembered as a hand-crafted love letter to the Star Wars films of old. Indeed, Rogue One achieved a similar feat back in 2016, but with characters like Chewie and Lando involved, there’s a real sense of legacy coursing through the veins of Ron Howard’s upcoming movie.
