Speaking with MTV International, the actor – who voices the irreverent Rocket Raccoon – was quizzed about the chief antagonist in Gunn’s sequel, and what follows is an awkward exchange of mixing up characters and important story strands from the sci-fi original. Check out the not-so-spoilery details after the jump.

Opening with a question about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it appears as though Cooper gets Ronan and Star Lord confused with one another, which has led some to believe that Thanos is actually the father of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill.

That’s not likely, though. Not only would that push Quill’s relationship with Gamora into incest territory, but Gunn himself teased that the wayward father has been right under our noses the entire time. Granted, it won’t be the same character from the comics – sorry, Jason of Spartax – which leads us to believe that it’s actually Adam Warlock, thus explaining the cocoon that can be glimpsed in the background of The Collector’s eccentric safe house.

Getting back to that comment, though, and it really comes down to Cooper’s limited involvement in Guardians of the Galaxy in the first place. Voice over work is often done far in advance of the actual filming, allowing for Marvel’s VFX experts to render the character of Rocket before he’s blended into the scene with his real-life counterparts. As such, it’s hardly surprising that the actor’s memory of the story is hazy at best.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to launch into theaters on May 5, 2017.
