Coming off a well deserved Oscar nom for his role in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, Bradley Cooper has chosen his next film and the lucky project is Dark Invasion, “a fact-based period picture centered on efforts railed against domestic terrorism.” No writer or director have been attached to the Warner Bros. project just yet but Cooper’s involvement alone should be enough to attract some more A-list talent.
The actor is set to both headline and produce the spy thriller which is based on the upcoming book by Howard Blum. The true story is set in 1915 and will have Cooper playing Tom Tunney, a captain in the NYPD who is “compiling members to combat the presence of German spies hoping to prevent the U.S. from assisting Allied efforts in World War I.”
Cooper and Warner Bros. only just inked the deal so not much else is known at this time but from what we have here, the project sounds pretty promising. As much as I love Cooper in films like The Hangover, I would much rather seem him expand his dramatic side by starring in more serious and mature roles, like his role in Silver Linings Playbook. That film was one of my favorites of 2012 and Cooper was phenomenal. His performance honestly blew me away.
Dark Invasion sounds like an interesting film. Not only because it is based on a true story (which is always something to get excited about), but the story itself seems pretty intriguing. A covert American team sent to take out German spies who “bomb factories, sabotage ships, shoot JP Morgan Jr. (a financier of the Allies), bomb the U.S. Capitol Building, and set up an anthrax lab six miles from the White House,” is definitely a story that we can get behind.
