According to Variety, The Weinstein Company is making some moves on their film Chef, a sex comedy written by Steven Knight. The project, which is being produced by IM Global, is now setup at TWC and apparently, Derek Cianfrance is on board to direct with Bradley Cooper set to star. Their report also mentions that actor Omar Sy will co-star in the film, making his English language debut after starring in the highly acclaimed film The Intouchables.
Chef will follow “a disgraced chef who, after losing his Michelin-rated restaurant in Paris, decides to bring his crew back together in an attempt to create the best restaurant ever in London.” The project has been in development for a while now, with David Fincher involved at one point. Back when he was on board, the director described it as ” a celibate sex comedy if that means anything. It’s really about the creative process. It’s truly an aromatic art-form, making food. I love that idea.”
So, firstly, what a month it’s been for Bradley Cooper! Things just keep getting better and better for him. First he earns an Oscar nom, then he snags a lead role in Dark Invasion, then another one in The Man From Primrose Lane. Plus, there’s also talk that he’ll be playing Lance Armstrong in an upcoming biopic. And that’s just recently, the man still has a whole other plateful of promising projects to look forward to. So yes, it’s a good month to be Bradley Cooper.
But then there’s also the fact that he’s re-teaming with his The Place Beyond The Pines director, which is another exciting prospect as early buzz on the film is very positive, with much praise going towards Cooper’s performance. While Chef certainly seems a bit of a step in the other direction from Cianfrance’s last few films, it seems intriguing nonetheless. And with a cast headlined by Cooper and Sy, this is definitely one to keep your eye on.
