Currently doing the press rounds for his menacing role in 10 Cloverfield Lane, Variety brings word today that John Goodman has inked a deal to join CBS Films and Lionsgate’s Boston marathon bombing feature, Patriots’ Day.

In line to play former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, Goodman will star opposite Mark Wahlberg and Justice League‘s J.K. Simmons in the drama, with the latter actor coming aboard only recently to assume the role of Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese. Wahlberg, on the other hand, is the boots on the ground – a “composite Boston Police Department officer” who leads the manhunt for the chief suspects.

Penned by Bridge Of Spies scribe Matt Charman alongside Berg, it’s understood that Scott Stuber, Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson and Michael Radutzky are among the producers attached to the feature film.

Based on recent casting alone, Patriots’ Day is comfortably ahead of the Jake Gyllenhaal-fronted Stronger, with production on Peter Berg’s picture due to commence later this month. Regardless of feature film, the heinous act of terrorism that will act as the basis for both movies took place on April 15, 2013, killing three people and injuring 264 others.

As for John Goodman, he can be seen prowling around Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Bad Robot’s claustrophobic thriller, 10 Cloverfield Lane. Curious to know how it stands apart from its monstrous brethren? Find out via Matt Donato’s glowing review.
