Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story Movie Reportedly Still In Development

On top of Episodes VIII, Episode IX and Rian Johnson's planned fourth trilogy, Disney and Lucasfilm are also working on a host of Star Wars spinoff movies under the Anthology banner. Last year brought us Rogue One, next year will usher in Solo and sometime in the near future we'll get an Obi-Wan standalone, too. That's not all, though, as it appears now that an old project has been resurrected as well: the Boba Fett movie.

On top of Episodes VIIIEpisode IX and Rian Johnson’s planned fourth trilogy, Disney and Lucasfilm are also working on a host of Star Wars spinoff movies under the Anthology banner. Last year brought us Rogue One, next year will usher in Solo and sometime in the near future we’ll get an Obi-Wan standalone, too. That’s not all, though, as it appears now that an old project has been resurrected as well: the Boba Fett movie.

Star Wars fans might recall that a vehicle for the beloved bounty hunter was announced a few years ago, with Chronicle‘s Josh Trank attached to direct. After his career crashed and burned following 2014’s Fantastic Four, however, the Boba Fett movie seemed to have been shelved indefinitely. Back in August, though, we learned that Lucasfilm was thinking of resurrecting the project.

According to a new report from Omega Underground, it looks like that’s really happening. The site’s found evidence to suggest that the Boba Fett movie is back in development, going under the working title “Tin Can,” presumably a reference to the character’s iconic helmet. Interestingly, this was the same working title used for Trank’s earlier version of the film. Whether this means that they’re essentially the same production, or just that the studio didn’t want to waste a good working title, we don’t know.

OU’s findings also suggest that Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan are still attached as producers. The X-Men franchise stalwart and the man behind several of the scripts of the Star Wars saga were originally set to pen Trank’s movie. By the looks of it, the duo are still on board to work on this revived version, and the film might even still be based off their screenplay.

All of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Anthology movies seem to garner a mixed reaction from the fanbase, who question whether we need these prequel stories filled in. However, a Boba Fett film is definitely one of the most exciting ideas being touted at the moment, but we’ll just have to wait and see if the project actually makes it to the screen this time.
